(Chuncheon = Yonhap News) Lee Sang-Hak Reporter: The ‘Lake City’ Chuncheon region, which is close to the metropolitan area, has emerged as a luxury resort city with the creation of large-sized tourism complexes in the region as a result of improvements to the transportation network.

On June 7^th, according to the Chuncheon government, Gangwon-do recently approved the development plan for Shin & Park Comprehensive Development’s tourism complex in which a membership resort (173 rooms), golf course (27 holes, membership) and ski resort (5 slopes) will be created on a 1.64 million ㎡ area in Dongsan-myeon, Gunja-ri.

Therefore, the construction company is expected to enter into the development project in earnest from September by investing KRW 340 billion from this year until 2013.

This is the third tourism complex to be approved in Chuncheon, following the Mureung-Dowon Tourism Complex in Dongsan-myeon, Joyang-ri, and the Wido Tourism Complex in Seo-myeon, Sinmae-ri.

After all three tourism complexes have been established, Chuncheon City is expecting to receive the spotlight as a luxury resort city close to the metropolitan area, especially with the opening of the Seoul-Chuncheon expressway last year and the Gyeongchun double track railway to be completed at the end of this year.
